Good morning, Dear Friends and Prayer Partners! This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! Once again we had a white world with frost on most lawns that did not have trees. Temps in the forties and very dry air have been the norm this past week, but the sun is shining and we are supposed to get up in the sixties today! Hooray!
I woke up shivering for some reason last night.. plenty of blankets, but, anyway, I soon warmed up and went back to sleep. I saw a pretty sight yesterday in the park. The large maple tree hanging over the water with red leaves ready to fall off, was next to a large oak, with gray moss hanging down and swaying in the wind. Underneath, was a white ibis pecking around. It was a Kodak moment, but I didn't have a camera with me. Our azaleas are enjoying this cool weather, and I see more pink flowers each day. There would be more, but we haven't had enough rain. But God is good!
The following are some scriptures that I pray daily for a long list of people, including most of you all. I thought they would be encouraging;
You all hope in the Lord, who will renew your strength.

Confidence
Good cold morning, Dear friends and Prayer Partners! This is the sunny day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! When I stepped outside before daybreak, the shining, crescent moon was brilliant in the clear darkness, and stars were twinkling in the cold, dark sky. Then, later, as I took the dumpster down to the curb, the world had turned white and frosty! All the yards and rooftops were covered with frost...it was very pretty, but COLD! The temps have warmed up in the forties, now and it will be a bright, lovely day. God is good!
Yesterday I stopped in the park to take Mike and Francia some lemon cake, and when I walked into the office, it was so cold, you could hang meat in there! Francia said she had told the people in charge that the heat didn't work, so when she wanted to warm up, she would walk to the classroom! Mike came in and was happy to see the cake, (one of his favorites) and we had a chat about the state of the county's finances.
Patrons walking dogs and just walking, were totally bundled up and not many were there. But, next week, we should be back to normal and I am sure some of the strawberry crop will be saved. God is good!

Many of the greatest athletes say that their real contest is a mental, not a physical one. It's the same way in our spiritual life. Our confidence comes not from looking around at our physical circumstances, but from looking to God.
How can we have conficence in the face of life's greatest hardships?
Proverbs 3: 5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding; Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.
When we rely on God, he will not let us down. Our limited understanding is no match for his limitless love and grace.
Romans 8:38-39 I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can't, and the demons can't. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can't keep God's love away. Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need.
Our happiness rises and falls, but our steady confidence comes from the consistency of Christ. We depend on Christ-not on circumstances.
Is there anything I can do to cultivate greater confidence?
Psalm 112:5-6 All goes well for those who are generous, who lend freely and conduct their business fairly. Such people will not be overcome by evil circumstances. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly.
Following God's principles give us the confidence of a clear conscience.

The New Year
Good morning, Dear Friends and Prayer Partners! This is the cold day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! BRRR! The last time I looked at the thermometer, it was still 43 degrees outside! WoW! That is the coldest day of the year, so far. Tomorrow is predicted to be the same, so I am happy and thankful for a warm house.
Because of the wind and cool weather, I did not visit the Park yesterday. We mostly stayed inside and watched the celebration in Wash. DC. It was nice that they cheered for my birthday! :o) I was also surprised to receive a beautiful bouquet of flowers in the afternoon from my sons and grandson... lots of pinks, purples and yellows! I am blessed.
A dear friend included this with her birthday card and I thought it worth passing on;
YESTERDAY... a canceled check
TOMORROW... is a promisory note
TODAY... is cash in hand: spend it wisely
God has promised me strength for today. So I begin 2009 free from worrisome days.
One of these is YESTERDAY. Yesterday with all its cares and fret, all its faults and unfulfilled dreams, has passed forever beyond the reach of my recall. I cannot undo an act that I have done. I cannot unsay a word that I said yesterday. All that it holds of my life is in the hands of God. Only He can bring honey out of the rock and sweet water out of the bitterest desert. Only He can make the wrong things right and turn weeping into laughter. Except for my treasured memories and those valuable lessons god has taught me, I have nothing to do with yesterday. It was mine, now it is in God's hands.
And the other day I do not worry about is TOMORROW. Tomorrow with all the possible burdens and challenges, its failures and mistakes-all of these are beyond my control. It is a day of God's. Its sun will rise in splendor or behind the dark clouds. All else is in the safekeeping of that infinite Love that holds for me the treasure of yesterday. The Love that is higher than the stars, wider than the skies, deeper than the seas. Tomorrow - it is God's day. It will be mine.
There is left for myself then but one day of the week-TODAY. With faith and trust in the Lord any man can fight the battles of today. Any woman can carry the burdens of just one day. Any man can resist the temptations of today. O friend, we break down only when we ourselves add to the burdens and cares of today carefully measured out to us by the infinite Wisdom and Might that gives with them the promise, "As thy day so shall thy strength be." It isn't the experience of today that drives men mad. It is the remorse for something that happened yesterday, the dread of what tomorrow may disclose.
These are God's days. Leave them with Him.
Therefore, with God's grace I journey but one day at a time. And while faithfully I run my course and work my appointed task, God the Almighty takes care of yesterday and tomorrow. "This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto these things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus... I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 3:-13-14,4:13

Hope
Good chilly morning, dear friends and Prayer Partners! This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! Well, last night I had just gotten asleep when I heard what sounded like a strong rain blowing through , and I was thankful, because we still need rain. This morning the wind is blowing and the temp. is dropping and this is supposed to usher in the coldest weather of the season. So, if I don't have any reason to go out, I don't think I will!
It was a beautiful, warm day yesterday, though, and I enjoyed looking at the flock of ibis, and herons and an egret in the Park . Lots of people were crowded in because of the holiday, or just enjoying a day in the Park. God is good,
I took a good long walk in Walmart yesterday, It took me longer to stop and wait for carts to clear, to let me out of the aisles I was in, than it did to shop! Not a good day to go, but how was I to know? I don't think the economy has affected the local super store much.
Because of the historic celebration in Wash. DC, for my birthday, I thought I would send different scriptures about "HOPE". :o) These are all from the Promise Bible NLT.
Romans 15:13 I pray that God, who gives you hope, will keep you happy and full of peace as you believe in him. May you overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 94:19 When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
Our hope is rooted in the wonderful acts of God in creation and history. The Bible gives full testimony to the fact that God is able to deliver us from any and every circumstance. He will either get us out of it or bring us through it-for his glory and our joy.

True Value
Good morning, Dear Friends and Prayer Partners! This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! Well, when I stepped outside in the dark this morning, I was surprised to discover that it had rained during the night! Everything was wet and shiny in the streetlights. The moon was a brilliant crescent, though, and it is much warmer than yesterday. Yay!
We saw a beautiful sight in the Park yesterday... a flock of ibis, a tri-colored heron, and an anhinga were all gathered on the side of the weir and reflected in the water. It was beautiful. We saw peacocks on the way in, as usual, enjoying looking at themselves. God is faithful!

We may not achieve the fame and recognition from people that we would like to have in this life, but God doesn't call us to be well known or admired. He calles us to be faithful to Him in whatever situation we find ourselves. When we are, we can see more clearly when he promotes us and gives us favor with others.
He who knows himself best esteems himself least.

Encouragement
Good morning, Dear Friends and Prayer Partners! This is the chilly day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! When I stepped outside in the 50 degree weather this morning, a hazy half moon was shining and the very cold north wind was blowing! BRRR! But, when I look at the weather in other places, I am thankful I live in Florida! Snow and freezing conditions and icicles hanging off people's glasses... not for me!
I actually saw a couple people in shorts yesterday. It was overcast and about 60, but I guess if you have lived in the North, this is warm weather to some. When I drove to the Park, after doctor appointments, I saw a lot of cars and it looked like some patrons were watching a gator sunning on the bank, although there was not a lot of sun. A great white heron was watching intently for an unwary fish to come by, and squirrels were busily scampering around, twitching their tails, and leaping on the trees! God is Good!

Where do I find the strength to keep going when I'm tempted to give up?
Galatians 6:9 Don't get tired of doing what is good, Don't get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.
Endurance comes from keeping our thoughts on the promise of the harvest, not the problems of the moment.
Philippians 2:12-13 Dearest friends, you were always so careful to follow my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away you must be even more careful to put into action God's saving work in your lives, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him.
We do not endure through our own strength alone. God is at work in our lives. He gives us the strength to keep going when we are exhausted and the reasons to keep believing when we are discouraged.
What purposes do endurance and perseverance serve in my life?
1 Peter 1:6-7 Be truly glad! There is wonderful joy ahead, even though it is necessary for you to endure many trials for a while. These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold-strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
2 Peter 15-9 Make every effort to apply the benefits of these promises to your life. Then your faith will produce a life of moral excellence. A life of moral excellence leads to knowing God better. Knowing God leads to self-control. Self-control leads to patient endurance, and patient endurance leads to godliness. Godliness leads to love for other Christians, and finally you will grow to have genuine love for everyone.. The more you grow like this, the more you will become productive and useful in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop these virtues are blind or, at least, very shortsighted. they have already forgotten that God has cleansed them from their old life of sin.
Endurance is like the fire that purifies precious metals and hardens valuable pottery. It cleanses, clarifies, and solidifies our faith. Living through the trials and tests of life is often the most significant way to discover the riches of our faith.

Talk with the Creator
Good morning, Dear Friends and Prayer Partners! This is the chilly day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! When I stepped outside this morning, the three quarter moon was shining brightly and casting shadows almost as bright as the sun, in contrast to the overcast rainy day of yesterday.
I was looking out the window at the rain when I noticed a large gopher tortoise, heading for the driveway. This is most unusual, because gophers have not been around here for a long time. He looked up at the driveway, then I guess he decided it was too steep, so he turned, crossed the street, and headed north in the water-filled gutter. I watched him for awhile as he was speeding :o) along, and lost sight of him, hoping a car would not hit him.
The only time we went out, was for a trip to the post office, and, of course, took a ride through the park. There were only three cars there, the fewest I have ever seen, except for years ago, when I used to walk at daybreak. But God is good to give us rain!

"There is literally nothing that I have ever wanted to do, that I asked the blessed Creator to help me do, that I have not been able to accomplish. It's all very simple if one knows how to talk with the Creator. It is simply seeking the Lord and finding him." these are the words of the great scientist, George Washington Carver, the American botanist who literally rebuilt the southern agricultural economy after the Civil War.
Born a slave, Carver eventually became head of the Agriculture Department at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. He developed more than three hundred uses for the peanut and dozens of products from the sweet potato and the soy bean. Much of Carver's research was conducted in his laboratory, which he called "God's Little Workshop."
"No books are ever brought in here," he said, "and what is the need of books? Here I talk to the little peanut, and it reveals its secrets to me. I lean upon the twenty-ninth verse of the first chapter of Genesis,"And God said, Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."
Carver had a habit of seeking the Lord early in the morning. He said, "There He gives me my orders for the day. I gather specimens and listen to what God has to say to me. After my morning's talk with God I go into my laboratory and begin to carry out His wishes for the day".
You can begin each day asking your Creator what He would have you do that day and how He would have you do it! If you are facing a challenge, God can reveal a new perspective. If you need inspiration, God can stir you up. If you feel you are in a dead-end situation, God can show you His way out. Seek your Creator today!
